For Meta Portal (1st generation)
Free for now — no subscription, no account
Meta discontinued Portal in 2022 and left great hardware behind. Lume Portal turns it into a beautiful always-on smart display — news, weather, markets, world clock and more — set up from your phone in minutes.
The first-generation Meta Portal is a well-built 10-inch display with good speakers — and since 2022, no purpose. The usual workarounds don't cut it:
Browser and screensaver workarounds quit the moment you tap the screen, so you can't even navigate between views.
Every change means walking up to the device and fiddling with it on the spot.
Nothing follows the device itself — each Portal is a new manual chore.
Three steps, no account, no cloud lock-in. Your settings live per device and can be changed from anywhere.
Sideload one APK onto the Portal over ADB. A single command does it — see Install. No Play Store, no account needed.
Open Lume Portal on the device. It shows a 6-character pairing code on screen.
Enter the code at /pair/ and choose language, city, screens and news sources. The Portal picks up the new setup when the dashboard reloads.
This is the real thing, not a mockup — the actual dashboard, running right now, framed like a Portal screen.
Live demo — the actual dashboard running right now.
Shown here in English with U.S. news sources; language and sources are configurable per device.
Brazil, world, tech, US and Atlanta headlines with full-screen photos.
Current conditions and a 7-day forecast for your city.
Five analog clocks: Atlanta, Los Angeles, Brasília, London and Tokyo.
S&P 500, Dow, Nasdaq, Ibovespa, FTSE, DAX, Nikkei and Hang Seng at a glance.
US AQI, health guidance and six pollutants for your city.
A daily verse on a classic backdrop.
“On this day” facts and a quick trivia quiz.
Dollar exchange rates and crypto prices with a weekly chart.
One command installs the app and launches it on the Portal. Or download the APK and install it yourself. Everything is free for now — the app, the dashboard, and setup.

Lume Portal is free and open source under the MIT license. The dashboard, the setup page, the pairing backend and the Android app are all in one public repo — fork it, improve it, and send a pull request. This is a community project: the more Portals it revives, the better.
New screens, new feeds, new languages, better layouts — the dashboard is a single readable file.
Small, well-tested pull requests get merged fastest. Check the contributing guide for the ground rules.
Report issues, share your setup, help another Portal owner get theirs running again.
